The blue jays beat the Yankees by a score of 8-5 in Toronto. This game begins a three game set between the two teams who have especially in recent years become bitter rivals.
Pitching
The Pitching for Toronto started out ok with Yesavage going 5 innings with 5 earned runs. He had three strikeouts and gave up four hits. The one area of his game that really struggled today were the walks. He gave up six walks in just five innings. If Yesavage wants to go deeper into games which he will need to as the season goes on he will need to limit his walks. Walks take more pitches and they kill any momentum the pitcher has in his favor.
The jays used four relief pitchers to close out the game who combined for 4 innings pitched 3 hits zero earned runs one walk and five strikeouts. While their starting pitcher struggled the jays relievers rallied behind him holding the Yankees to zero runs in the final four innings of the contest.
Hitting
This was definitely a team effort win on the hitting side as the jays put up 8 runs against the Yankees with six coming against the starter Ryan Weathers who has been sneaky good this year.
Springer the known just killer of the Yankees had a two run home run in the second and Okamoto also had a two run home run in the first. As well as Alejandro Kirk adding 3 hits in his first game back after missing the last 62.
Overall the jays hitters did what they needed to do they didn’t leave many runs on the board and took great advantage of some bad pitches made by the Yankees starter.
Conclusion
Overall the Jays outside of the starting pitching played a good game and move to 34-36 on the season. They now move to 0.5 games back of the third wildcard spot currently held by the rangers.
