INTRODUCTION

This past weekend the Red Sox took on the Mariners in Seattle. The Red Sox ended up winning the series 2-1 against the Mariners.

HITTING

Time to talk about the hitting for the Mariners or should I say lack of hitting and total offense. In the three games played the Mariners had ten hits. Ten hits in three games that is very bad. Most of their offense came in the third and final game where they put up as many runs in that game as they did in their previous two.

The offense for the Mariners has been bad for many years now as they rely on one or two good offensive pieces and really good pitching.

In the games they left 14 on base and were 2-12 with runners in scoring position. With 19 base runners total throughout the three games. The Mariners struck out 22 times as well in the three games. Meaning they struck out more than they were on base throughout the series.

Outside of a couple of decent hitting performances the Mariners were awful at the plate and this is just how their season has gone for them they cannot hit. With Cal back they can hope for an offensive spike but I don’t see it Cal is not the same as he was last year.

PITCHING

Pitching there wasn’t much of note outside of a 6.1 one run given up Logan Gilbert performance the pitching wasn’t great either. Especially Castillo who has been struggling all year gave up 4 runs in his 5 innings of work on Friday.

The Mariners have always produced some good starters in their history. The starters feel like they have to be perfect or else they’ll lose the game since they get no run support from their weak offense.

SOX

The Red Sox played good baseball the first two games getting very good pitching and offensive production. They did what they needed to do to win the series on the road. The Red Sox improve to 19-19 on the road this season. They have been much better on the road this season than they have been at home. They finally got their 30th win on the season Friday night.

CONCLUSION

The Mariners will have to be better offensively if they hope to make as deep of a postseason run as they did last year. They sit at 40-39 on the season and are 1.5 games ahead of the A’s on the season.
