The United states defeated team Canada 5-3 in a very close exciting game that both teams should be proud of. The reason that the United States came out on top was just because they had the better pitching and less mistakes. That error committed by Canada’s third basemen that allowed the US to score to two more runs extending their lead from 1-0 to 3-0 really was one of the reasons they lost this game tonight.

To talk about what the United States did well is kind of tough as they chipped away and played a solid team game. They kept the pressure on Canada’s pitchers by just consistently reaching base as each of their nine hitters reached base at least once tonight. Logan Webb started the game and went 4.2 innings with no runs given up and pitched just overall very solid for team USA putting them in a good position to capture the win tonight.

The United States will be playing the Dominican Republic who does everything the US does well but in my opinion better. This will be a tough matchup for both teams as they have performed extremely well up to this point. The US as they did tonight of being patient at the plate and chipping away will need to do that double against the DR. While Bednar, Whitlock and Miller all pitched exceptionally at the end of the game their middle relief did give up 3 runs. With the way the tournament’s rules are relief pitchers are more important and all of them need to be good especially going up against a team with as good of hitters as the DR.

Sunday will be an interesting game and I for one cannot wait to watch this game. Both of these teams have the capabilities to beat anyone and will have to play each other in what feels like a very early part of the tournament for either of these teams to get eliminated.
